With 2011 coming to an end it's time to review my predictions from a year ago. I will rate them as a correct or incorrect and give myself a little score. In the next few days I will be releasing my 2012 predictions.
2011 Predictions
- Microsoft will announce the plans for the next Xbox - I will call this half right. We all know it's coming but Microsoft did not announce anything directly. However all signs are pointing to that its coming. Half-Right - 1/2 point.
- Apple will buy Facebook - This didn't happen obviously. FAIL 0 points
- A large city will have a long black out - This didn't happen for the reasons I was intending, infrastructure failure, not natural disaster caused. FAIL 0 points
- The Year Of The Cloud - I will call this one a big success. With Apple leading the charge with moving their devices to use the new iCloud the rest of the industry is following suit. RIGHT - 1 point.
- iTunes starts to move away from local storage - Again I will call this one correct. It's not as dramatic as I predicted but I will still call this correct. RIGHT - 1 point.
- Cell Phone Companies are going to change their pricing models - I will say I am partially correct on this. The Unlimited data plans being a thing of the past now, the cell companies are constantly messing with the pricing models. I didn't get correct that the plans will be more data focused than voice, but I still say that will happen eventually. Half-Right - 1/2 point.
- Another Dot-Com Boom starts - I will say I am correct and that boom is Cloud and Mobile App development. We are just seeing the beginning of things to come, which is a good thing. RIGHT - 1 point.
- The decline of the laptop - Dead on. RIGHT - 1 point.
- 3D Flops - Bingo. It's a fad, was a fad, a cool thing to see but not watch everything on... yet. The devices sold that are 3D specific are down, movie sales for 3D only are down, and it's just a thing that came and went. It will not go away, but when everyone did 3D just to do 3D with what made 3D lame. RIGHT - 1 point.
- Netflix makes a big TV deal - I am going to say this is correct. Netflix's online success I felt had to be in an exclusive TV deal. Netflix stepping in and bringing back the cult classic Arrested Development is the first step. RIGHT - 1 point.
Result - 7 / 10
Not bad.
2012 predictions coming in the next few days.
End of Line.
