August 29, 2013 Breaking Bad - What Took Me So Long?

After years of hearing about it, being told about it by my friends and colleagues, I finally succumbed to the pressure and started watching Breaking Bad. The more and more I saw the hype about the show coming to an end with this season and with the current lull of decent shows I jumped in. Actually what made it a done deal was a co-worker showed me the opening scenes of the first epsiode. After that it I was hooked. With the beauty of Netflix I was able to start with episode 1 and away I went. Netflix on my Apple TV, Xbox, iOS devices, desktop allows full access all the time.

The show itself is exactly what everyone said it would be and more. I am one for hard hitting TV dramas and this one is one of the best I have seen. Each story building to the next, the character development is fantastic and those a brought to life by the actors. Each character you feel involved and connected to. This is so true that there is now a new concept that has been spawned from this show called the Sykler White Effect. You would never have anything close to this is the characters, writing and acting were sub-par. On a side note, for a fictional TV series, I personally feel so much disgust and anger toward the Skyler character and everyone I talk to about the show agrees with me.

Quick synopsis is that a high school chemistry teacher gets diagnosed with Stage 3A lung cancer and after a few circumstances makes meth to provide for his family when he's gone. Simple in concept but it grows from there and the best part of the show is that it will go in directions you don't anticipate but always make sense in the grand scheme of things.

Right now I am almost done with Season 3 and hope to get up to speed before the series finale airs, about 5 weeks from now. I want to see what happens to Walter, Jessie, Skyler, Hank, Gus and the rest. I want to say more but once you start talking about it there is high risk of spoilers which would ruin if you do have not seen it yet.

If you have not watched Breaking Bad do so. If you are hesitant, don't be. There hasn't been a series that I have watched that has been this engaging in all the episodes. It is a sequential series, once you start you have to watch the epsiodes in order, but it's worth it.

Without getting into it, it's amazing that a show like this makes an anit-hero such a powerful and likable character.

End of Line.
