August 26, 2013 Binary Blogger Fantasy Football 2013 - The Draft

The Minnesota No-Whiner League had it's Fantasy Football draft yesterday evening and I thought it went quite well. Some teams are pretty good, some may be a big epic fail, others middle of the road. Only time and the performance of the NFL players will tell what the next 20 weeks or so will bring.

For the second year in a row we did our draft 100% online, even with the guys that were present, on ESPN.com. Primarily because it's free but also because they could accommodate our auction draft style.

Our draft is as such; Each team gets a $200 salary cap and the only forced rule is you must draft a starting lineup by the end. The only other limitation is you can only carry two QBs. ESPN's site allowed us to set everything up and had zero problems. Well, the only problem I had was that their draft room was Flash based and my iPad was useless so I had to borrow a laptop. Annoying.

The 'draft order' is more of a nomination order. When a team is up they can nominate the next player for bid and a price. Then there is a 30 second clock to bid and when there is a 10 second lull then you win, Going Once, Going Twice, Sold style. I was impressed on how fast and responsive the website was and how tight we had the clock. There were no delays or refreshes the teams had to do.

It wouldn't be a Fantasy Football league without ribbing, ripping, and joking around. Since the guys last saw me I was probably 40 pounds heavier, not any more. That being said I have been eating more and more Kale and making Kale chips. Not a taste for most but if you want to eat healthy and get your natural vitamins you can't go wrong with some Kale. So instead of taking the jabs at my rabbit food I rolled with it and I changed my football team name to the Kale Warriors.

You can only laugh with me.

Here are the results of the draft, who I got and what I paid. The squad that will lead me to victory!

====================================

Kale Warriors

QB
   SF Colin Kaepernick $25
RB
   Bal Ray Rice $69
   Atl Steven Jackson $21
WR
   NYG Victor Cruz $20
   Atl Roddy White $22
TE
   Dal Jason Witten $9
D/ST
   49ers D/ST $2
K
   NE Stephen Gostkowski $3

Bench
K
   Min Blair Walsh $3
QB
   Sea Russell Wilson $14
WR
   TB Mike Wallace $9
RB
   SD Ryan Mathews $3

Total: $200 spent (It's bad drafting if you leave money on the table)
====================================

Overall I am pleased with my draft and I think it's better than year's past. I am expecting a break out from Stephen Jackson other than that I played it pretty safe, no huge gambles. Until the season starts they are just names in a list and pre-season performances mean nothing.

Each week after the Monday night games I will post my progress, transactions, and scores.

Are you ready for some football?!?!?

End of Line.

$69 for Rice?
were you blowing .23 BAC when you kept bidding that high?
We are not talking about late 80's Jerry Rice,
You may want to clear a spot in the trophy room for the toilet bowl trophy. That is all you will be getting.
