August 25, 2013 Fantasy Football 2013 Season Begins

In spirit of the Binary Blogger shift I will be sharing my annual painful and frustrating journey in Fantasy Football. Each year, for the past 20 years, I get together with family and friends to donate my money to the league winner.

Today is our draft at our regular location, sitting on the deck in the sun, grilling burgers and brats and consuming hydrating, refreshing, wheat based beverages. Although with today's forecast saying it will be 99 degrees with a heat index pushing 105 we may have to move inside. In Minnesota when it get's that hot you also get oppressive humidity. Then again snow can be falling in about 6 weeks, only in Minnesota.

Our league is 10 teams and our draft is a $200 salary cap auction style. Our teams are setup with 12 men, 8 starters and 4 bench. The starting roster is 1- QB, 2 - WR, 2 - RB, 1 - TE, 1 - D/ST, 1 - K and our rule is you must draft a full starting roster.

This year we changed it up and abolished league divisions and the league is all 10 teams competing for the playoffs, top 6 make it with #1 and #2 getting 1st round playoff bye-weeks. We play 16 weeks of the NFL regular season and our playoffs begin Week 14.

We use ESPN for our league management over CBS Sportsline because ESPN being free with live scoring also has better and more up to date news and research tools than Sportsline. It gets the job done.

After the auction draft the rest of the year is basic waiver wire style for pickups and drops with no limits or fees attached. $100 entry and top 3 teams and top scorer gets money back. Our scoring may change prior to the draft but right now it's fractional with a standard 1 point per 25 passing, 1 for 10 run and receiving, negatives for INT and Fumbles, 4 for passing TD, 6 for running or receiving TDs and a few other categories that I will probably detail in a later post.

Anyway I usually look like Harbaugh early into the season. I will be posting weekly updates on my team throughout the season this year and I even created a special top menu for it.

Maybe I might actually get some advice that will get me passed the first round of the playoffs this year.... if I actually make it to the playoffs.

End of Line.
