No the ad is not woman prancing around in hurricane winds, tossing their golden blonde hair back, to make sure the latest tiny lingerie is fully visible, like Victoria Secret. No their ad has humor, wit and it is doing exactly what marketers want to happen, get the name out. The state that K-Mart is in, all publicity is good publicity... unless a customer gets killed from a falling blue light.
Here's a quote from my favorite grassroots group the Parents Television Council. To refresh your memory this is the group that claims that if 4 of there 6 'experts' find something distasteful then they argue that ratio applies to a 300 million people population and try to block everything. If you watch CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX (non paid cable) dramas you can tell their group is not very effective.
In regard to the most recent commercial, it appears Kmart has no plans to remove it, something Melissa Henson, national grassroots director for the Parents Television Council, said could hurt the company's sales.
Hurt sales, I don't think so. In fact I think it will raise them, why, because K-Mart's brand in everywhere now. Most people probably will never take the time to watch the ad on the Internet or see it on TV but they will see K-Mart flash on the news and in headlines.
Here's the latest ad and you can judge for yourself.
Even though I find this ad entertaining it doesn't come close to the K-Mart ads from earlier this year from humor or shock. I like them all. If you don't then you don't. At the end of the day we all have the choice to spend our money at Shop A or Shop B, we don't have to justify it.
